The loop will take you on a discovery of the hills where the highly prized Moscato di Scanzo wine is produced, all the way to the Venetian walls, in the heart of the city of Bergamo, along one of the four routes that make up the Quadrifoglio cicloturistico delle Terre del Vescovado (four cycle tourism routes of the Terre del Vescovado)
The route is mainly along asphalt roads or unpaved cycle paths.
The trail is suitable for anyone and does not require any special technical or physical skills.

From Gorlago to Scanzorosciate

Leave your car in the car park in Via San Spiridione, near Moroni Park, hop in the saddle and ride through the historic centre of Gorlago. Leave the village and take the Ciclovia dei Laghi (Lake cycle path) in the direction of Bergamo to the village of Albano Sant’Alessandro. Then head towards the village of Torre dei Roveri where, among woods and vineyards, the climb to Colle dei Pasta hill begins. When you reach the top, take a break to admire the panorama that opens up towards the Città Alta (Upper City) of Bergamo. Situated in a dominant position, surrounded by the imposing Mura Venete (Venetian Walls), it forms the oldest nucleus of the city, where the most famous aristocratic palaces are located.Continue along the ridge towards Tribulina and the vineyards of the famous Moscato di Scanzo. Once past Monte Bastia, after pleasant ascents and descents, you will find yourself in the village of Scanzo.

From Scanzorosciate to Bergamo

The route continues through residential neighbourhoods and country roads. Ride alongside the Serio river and cross it at Alzano Lombardo. Stay on the cycle path and follow the signs in the direction of Bergamo, entering the city from Torre Boldone and passing through Borgo Santa Caterina, one of the historic districts of Bergamo’s capital.

From here, ascend towards the Città Alta along the Mura Venete, declared a UNESCO heritage site, pass through Porta San Giacomo and descend through Borgo San Lorenzo until you reach Via XX Settembre, known by the people of Bergamo as the ‘Sentierone’ (big trail).

Your next destination will be Seriate and the Oasi Verde (Green Oasis) on the Serio river. The Oasi Verde is a public park with facilities for sports and leisure, the ideal place for a last stop or to explore the Serio Regional Park. You then ride up the Serio river through the historic centre of Seriate. When you reach Pedrengo, return towards Albano Sant’Alessandro and retrace the Ciclovia dei Laghi route back to Gorlago.
